A simple summary of our lives

I just sent an update to my MIT alumni group and thought I would share it here. It basically summarizes our lives in a few words.

My wife Beth and I are happily living in Springfield, MO with our 5 children, Adam (10), Luke (8), Rachel (5), John (3) and Isaac(1).

I have been working at DMP, a security systems manufacturer, for over 13 years in various positions, designing software, designing electronics, and various types of management. My job title and responsibilities change almost monthly.

Beth keeps busy homeschooling our oldest 3 and they are thriving with it. I cannot imagine schooling any other way.

We bought a house "in the country" about 2 years ago with 2 acres, lots of open space, lots of trees, and a big patch of woods behind it that is owned by the state. Our children love playing on every square inch of the land.

We recently joined a reformed Baptist church and have been loving the fellowship we have with other like-minded, large, homeschooling families. Our main goal is to serve God and teach our children to do the same and its great to be with other families who think the same way.

Yesterday, I was replacing an old, leaky, 10 gallon (or so) per flush toilet in my house with a new, barely uses any water whatsoever model.

Two visits to urgent care in one day!!!

Adam and Luke are making a wigwam in the woods behind our house, the same woods that I sprayed for poison ivy a few months ago. They covered the sides with leaves. Can you see where we are headed here?

A rash showed up on Adam's face a few days ago, but a little hydrocortisone seemed to keep it in check...until this morning when it was swollen and his eye was almost half shut. So, we started our morning with a visit to urgent care to take care of it.

Later this afternoon, Luke and Rachel were on the roof of the storage shed while Adam was handing and tossing stuff up to them. Apparently he tossed something to Luke a little too hard and hit him in the head. Adam came and got me and I found Luke on the roof, bleeding from his forehead and very unhappy. He was in good enough shape to climb down on his own, as he did not want me to help him down. We bandaged him up, but decided later to take him to urgent care too, since the bleeding hadn't completely stopped. After waiting for two hours, he got his wound "super glued" shut. To pass the time, we worked on his spelling and reading with my Palm Pilot.

As of today, October 11, 2005, I have spent half my life crazy about my wonderful wife. I was born January 11, 1969 and Beth and I started dating on May 28, 1987. (I calculated the days on the computer.)

I went to New York City today for work and was back home by 9:00 pm. I worked almost the whole time and was only in the city about 5 hours. I at least got to eat some "real" falafel, hummus, and some other tasty kosher vegetables.

Dear Adam,

Happy, happy, happy birthday!!!! Following is a special birthday itinerary created just for you!
Your birthday will start at home with a breakfast of biscuits and gravy and jelly, milk and either an orange or fresh-squeezed orange juice.
Next, you will be treated to some reading by your Dad, then we will proceed to town to the Discovery Center (or other activity or your choice), followed by lunch at a restaurant of your choice or a picnic at a park (Jordan Valley, Sequiota, you pick!)
You will then proceed to the Library Center for a date with Dad to do some research: WWII and club house plans.
You will conclude your library date with a beverage and snack of your choice at Churchill's Coffee before heading to CPO to pick up your birthday club gift, A&B Cycle to buy a bike rack, then to TRU to buy new Nerf balls.
