WWII 1939-1940

Adam

On December 13, 1939 the two British cruisers the Ajax and the Achells were at the mouth of the River Plate and cornered the Graf Spee who had six 11 inch guns, eight 5.9 inch guns and six 4.1 inch guns.
Then on December 17 the Graf Spee was scuttled by the Ajax and the Achells and the much more powerful Cumberland, which had just arrived to give them support.
Hitler told the Captain of the Graf Spee that he could only do two things, scuttle or fight in the open sea.
Just before the three mile limit to the open sea came, the ships stopped and the crowd on land saw the crew take to the life boats. Minutes later, came a series of explosions and flames lit up the sky. The ship settled on the riverbed, her upper decks above water and still burning.

July 30, 2005
Dear Adam,

Happy, happy, happy birthday!!!! Following is a special birthday itinerary created just for you!
Your birthday will start at home with a breakfast of biscuits and gravy and jelly, milk and either an orange or fresh-squeezed orange juice.
Next, you will be treated to some reading by your Dad, then we will proceed to town to the Discovery Center (or other activity or your choice), followed by lunch at a restaurant of your choice or a picnic at a park (Jordan Valley, Sequiota, you pick!)
You will then proceed to the Library Center for a date with Dad to do some research: WWII and club house plans.
You will conclude your library date with a beverage and snack of your choice at Churchill's Coffee before heading to CPO to pick up your birthday club gift, A&B Cycle to buy a bike rack, then to TRU to buy new Nerf balls.

Friday night fun!

Heironimus Family

Some families have fun on Friday nights by watching movies. Others play games. Tonight, we got together after dinner and gave each other shots with saline (rather than insulin) or blood glucose tests!

It's been a long time...

Heironimus Family

I've been putting off adding any entries until I could really catch up on all that has happened the past seven months. Rather than making a long, drawn out post here is a quick list of two major happenings.

In February, we found out that John has type I diabetes. It has certainly been an adventure, but he has been a champ with 4 insulin shots and 5-7 finger pricks every day. Our meals consist of lancets and glucose meters, counting carbs, measuring spoons and scales, estimating how much is left of the piece of bread he didn't fully eat, and Humalog shots.

On May 26, our fifth child, Isaac, was born. So far, he's been a great baby. At first, he didn't eat as well as he should have, but he is now been doing much better. He's not a great sleeper, but not bad either. Everyone loves him.
